W. Maurice Smith Jr. is W.M. Smith Sr.’s son, Anne Quessenberry’s brother, Jim Jr.’s uncle. After sharing the 1903 house after the war, he and Alva Jane Murray built 3335 Highway 163 in 1954 — parcel 002-00833-000, next door to the Quessenberrys at 3343.

He is the second-generation owner/operator of Birdeye Angus Farms. The 1959 Aberdeen-Angus Journal photographs him walking the Keystone cattle with Jimmie Johnston. Later write-ups sometimes call his continuation Smith Angus Farms. That herd is not Whit Smith’s 2018 vegetable farm.

Jim cooked for Maurice’s political circles later — Sauce Beautiful at the intersection of Delta food and Arkansas politics. Jane stayed on at 3335; later William Maurice Smith, Mark and Beth Bradshaw.
